A few people from Nantes (France) formed Prikosnovenie way back in 1990. Since then numerous interesting releases saw the light of day, usually filled with dreamy, ethereal, medieval, fairy-like music, and always in a worthwile packaging. This compilation gives a perfect overview of the labels’s present day qualities. "Fairy World No. 1" gathers 17 mosty unreleased songs, from artists from all over the world, from Russia to Australia, from Japan to Greece. The sampler comes in a nice A5 booklet, which is an illustrated catalogue of the label.
The title is well-chosen, the music on this compilation is populated by faeries. A lot of tranquil atmospheric music, with many acoustic instruments, heavenly female voices and medieval, classical, world music or folky elements. Dead Can Dance is an obvious influence on many of the acts on "Fairy World No. 1".
The artists assembled here are Ashram, Caprice, Anassane, Daemonia Nymphe, Faraway, Fleur, Jack or Jive, GOR, Love Sessions, Lys, Ringe Ringe, Phil Von, Wolz, Prajna, Irfan, Louisa John Krol. On some tracks artists collaborate, like Love Sessions, with musicians of Daemonia Nymphe, GOR, Lys and Louisa John-Krol.
Though the artists each have their own trademarks, they form a homogenous combination on this album, so it’s hard to pick out single highlights. I could find no weak moments either, normally the ’skip’-funtion is needed when listening compilations, but not this time. Certain is that the moving ‘I’ve lost myself’ by Ashram should have lasted a bit longer that 1:44…
A nice dose of romantic, intimate high-quality music which makes you melt and float away. And the good thing is: you get "Fairy World No. 1" for free when you order another Prikosnovenie.

“Fairy World” is the name for all compilation records of the French label Prikosnovenie. The subtitle is the understatement of what you can find on this, ‘a collection of delicate & spiritual music’. With bands as Pinknruby (with an unreleased track ‘Broceliande’ that contains all the typical aspects of this band), Fleur (with the beautiful ‘Be My Sense’ of their last album), Collection D’Arnell Andrea (which actually doesn’t fit like their used to with their wave oriented songs), Ghost Fish (with the likes of Daemonia Nymphe and Louisa John-Krol), Love Sessions (with Francesco Banchini and Louisa John-Krol), Daemonia Nymphe, Lys (with Fransoi Caspari), Moon Far Away, Irfan (who sound less bombastic like on their last record) and Caprice (with two unreleased tracks) you can’t expect any less. The Eastern oriented Anassane and Zmiya are, together with the poppy (nice sung song of) Misstrip and the melancholic Deleyaman, the more unknown highlights of this compilation. “Fairy World II” is again a wonderful trip into a land filled with beauty and tranquil music.
Prikosnovenie seems to have made their various artists release Fairy World into a series, as they now released part two. Again you get a cd filled with music that shows the style of the label: fairy world music. For those who are not familiar with the sound it is world and folk music made with an open mind and various music influences but always with a fairy (tale) atmosphere.
Most of the label’s artists are of course present on this cd so it serves as a good introduction to new listeners. But, as the cd comes in a beautiful booklet and features some previously unreleased material also fans of the label will be pleased.
From the opening track by Pinknruby to the last tunes by Caprice, you are drawn into a dreamworld inhabited by unknown creatures and surreal landscapes. Even though the more rock orientated tracks by Collection D’Arnell Andrea and Misstrip are more down to earth, the overall atmosphere on the record is otherwordly.
Highlights are the fantasy world/folk tracks by Fleur and Ivo Sedlacek. But most of the featured musicians are worthwhile. Thus a very fine collection from a very nice label.
